RAVE MAN SLICK CAVE MAN: ROCHAMBEAU AT MADE
February 11, 2013 / Ruby WarringtonMADE regular’s since February 2011, Joshua Copper and Laurence Chandler of Rochambeau showcased a dark and industrial collection at their aw13 presentation last night. Inspired by the 1994 discovery of 40,000-year-old cave drawings in the Ardeche region of France, a palette of limestone, black, grey and sienna was an earthy reference to this menacing underground imagery - which depicted lions and woolly rhinos fighting for their territory.
The only obvious nod to the drawings was a black sweatshirt embroidered with the blue heads of these wild beasts. Elsewhere, hooded parkas featured heavily, while utilitarian cargo pants and boiler suits - accessorised with round-framed sunglasses by Illesteva - were right out of a 1990s warehouse rave (thanks to a pounding techno soundtrack from DJ Saheer Umar). Layering featured heavily - for example, an outsize blazer over a hooded, drawstring shirt; a pair of sienna wool city shorts over monochromatic printed leggings. A final tribal touch meanwhile, came from statement neckpieces by NYC duo Holst + Lee.
