Pitching up at Olive Town Court in upstate New York to settle a speeding fine, Lucio Castro found himself stepping into another world - one that was, in the words of Coldplay, all yellow. “The walls, the carpet, the chairs…everything was yellow,” he said at his MADE presentation last night, and the seeds for his aw13 collection were planted.
The hopeful, happy colour - “I also like the fact it doesn’t have a gender” - was a golden thread, running throughout the presentation. There was a wide ribbed yellow merino wool v-neck, worn with winter chinos in yellow wool / cashmere (repeated often, in a darker mustard shade); a pair of color-blocked cream and yellow cotton twill and wool Farmer pants; a mustard wool / cashmere and leather backpack; and a red and yellow color-blocked wool tie - an eye catching accent piece. Off-set by earthy monochromes and shades of heather, olive and indigo, as well as a brilliant primary red and electric blue, the overall effect was playful and upbeat. Set to a soundtrack of upbeat house by Wrecked NYC DJ Ryan Smith and yellow shrink-wrapped backdrop by interiors stylist and set designer David Davis, the presentation was a ray of late winter sunshine on a cold February day.
