After showing a smart and stellar runway collection full of pilgrim chic — they even managed a wooden teepee on the catwalk - SUNO designers Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis headed to The Ballroom at The Jane Hotel where Refinery29 fetted their latest line. And well wishers and peeps just wanting to get down still turned up to show love for SUNO and Refinery29, despite the Nor’Easter named Nemo raging on outside. Early in the evening as folks started to trickle in, Refinery29 Editor-In-Chief Christine Barberich chatted with style bloggers Susie Bubble and Phil Oh of The Streetpeeper at the downstairs bar as the first cocktails were being poured. In the VIP balcony, Osterwies, Beatty, Suno friends and guests like Tyson Chandler of the New York Knicks, Grazia.it Editor-In-Chief and blogger Tamu McPherson, jewelry designer and CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund Winner Monique Pean, dined on a buffet of kale salad, brussels sprouts, grilled chicken and flank steak, provided by The Smile, the sister restaurant of the Jane Ballroom ‘s hosts Matt Kliegman and Carlos Quirarte.
DJ Chelsea Leyland, rocking a black ski cap a la A$AP Rocky, held down the set, taking things nice and easy spinning golden oldies like ‘Please Mr Postman’ and ‘Twist and Shout’ — all jams that were great for minor sing-alongs as the main hall filled up. The revelers in the Ballroom downstairs got messy and fun pretty quick though, with last year’s NYFW all-star jam, ‘212’ by Azealia Banks, setting things off and proving that it’s still fly two seasons later. Rapper and international party boy Theophilus London joined the scene as the night wore on and by 11:25pm party goers were dancing on tables and couches like their parents were out of town and they were home alone for the weekend. Toward the unofficial end of evening as R&B jams bumped downstairs, friends and supporters drew near to sing Happy Birthday to Beatty, bringing an intimate close to a busy SUNO NYFW evening.
