Grouplove’s colorful hippie alt-pop set was lighthearted, keeping the crowd hopping up and down in time with the music, especially during the last two songs, the group’s popular hits, Tongue Tied and Colours, which they performed with lively vigor. It was cold, windy, and rainy, but the energy under the tent at the Mojave stage kept things warm, especially in the center of the mostly young indie crowd. The band kept their appearances playful as well, with singer Christian Zucconi sporting a new blue ‘do.
Surprising musical insertions that included heavy kettle drums and songs with very little vocals carried by the instrumentals alone were a welcome addition to the performance. Though the majority of Grouplove’s songs don’t stray outside of the pop genre, this set provided some unique additions that the crowd really seemed to appreciate.
